About Laurel Field Co.

About Us

We started Laurel Field Co. because we both feel that land should be used, not just left sitting around. Land can provide habitat for wildlife, help pollinators thrive, restore soil, etc. We want each of our projects — whether you're looking for a small planting at your home or a full restoration of a native meadow at your business — to have a specific goal and be functional for years to come.

We base our way of creating landscapes on the current state of Washington County. Many areas of biodiversity are found in small, often-overlooked environments (creek edges, limestone ground, etc.) that are constantly being threatened by development. The environment and landscape we create will be based on the realities of where and how we live.

We also document the land we study through Wild WashCo — a field documentation project. By spending time in the different types of habitats, documenting what's working, what's declining, and what needs to be restored, this provides us with direct knowledge about the work we do.

Laurel Field Co. was named after Matt's grandfather, Laurel Glenn Dunn. His respect for the land and his dedication to doing the right thing on the job has influenced the direction of all we do
